Corrections Activates Contact Numbers for Offenders, Families

Baton Rouge, LA, August 28, 2008—State correctional facilities have been preparing to receive inmates from local coastal parishes in advance of landfall. The Department, in partnership with the Louisiana Sheriffs Association, will be assisting in the evacuation and housing of inmates, starting Friday. As a result of emergency operations, visitation at all state correctional facilities are cancelled for Friday, Saturday and Sunday, August 29-31, 2008. Further updates for the upcoming week will be posted soon.

The phone bank hours starting Saturday, August 30, 2008 run from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. until further notice. Since some evacuations won’t take place until Saturday, please know that individuals manning the phone bank may not have immediate information on all inmate evacuees.

Probationers and Parolees Offenders under Probation and Parole supervision who need to evacuate should contact the Division of Probation and Parole to report their location during the evacuation and to receive specific information about restrictions and other reporting information that pertains to them.
